Η Μαριλένα Πετρίδου είναι πιστοποιημένη δασκάλα(practitioner) της Μεθόδου Feldenkrais, παιδαγωγός χορού-κίνησης, χορεύτρια-performer και μουσικός, με βάση την Αθήνα. Σπούδασε κλασσικό και σύγχρονο χορό στην Κρατική Σχολή Ορχηστικής Τέχνης και στο Northern School of Contemporary Dance (Leeds, UK) και τύμπανα στο Ωδείο Μουσικής Πράξης. Από το 2012 ως το 2016 για 4 χρόνια παρακολούθησε την 1η επαγγελματική εκπαίδευση που έγινε στην Ελλάδα για τη Μέθοδο Feldenkrais®, το Feldenkrais International Training Programme "Greece I" (υπό τη διεύθυνση της Ruty Bar) και έλαβε την πιστοποίησή της από το Eurotab (European Accreditation Board) που την κατοχυρώνει να εξασκεί τη Μέθοδο σε οποιαδήποτε χώρα του κόσμου. Συνεργάστηκε ως χορεύτρια κυρίως με την Ομάδα YELP danceco. και τη χορογράφο Μαριέλα Νέστορα από το 1998 και με την Ομάδα Χορού ΖΗΤΑ και τη χορογράφο Ίρις Καραγιάν από το 2005, αλλά και με αρκετούς ακόμα Έλληνες και διεθνείς χορογράφους. Παράλληλα έχει ασχοληθεί για αρκετά χρόνια με την πολιτιστική διαχείριση και έχει συνεργαστεί με σημαντικά φεστιβάλ και οργανισμούς. Διδάσκει σύγχρονο χορό/κίνηση σε νήπια-παιδία και ενήλικες από το 2002. Πρόσφατα συνεργάστηκε με το Παιχνιδαγωγείο στο Ν.Ψυχικό στα απογευματινά εργαστήρια και στο πρωινό πρόγραμμα του παιδικού σταθμού + νηπιαγωγείου . Διδάσκει τη Μέθοδο Feldenkrais από το 2014, ενώ το 2016 δημιούργησε μαζί με άλλους συναδέλφους, το Κέντρο Feldenkrais στα Κ.Πετράλωνα (www.feldenkraiscenter.org) , αφιερωμένο στη διάδοση και διδασκαλία της Μεθόδου και τις εφαρμογές της.
Short bio in English
Marilena Petridou is a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, dance/movement teacher, dancer and musician born and based in Athens, GR. Her background is working in the dance field since 1997 as a dancer/performer, mainly for YELP and ZITA dance companies based in Athens-GR, as well as for various other greek and international choreographers. Parallel to her dancing activities, she has also worked as an arts/dance/press administrator and production assistant for various cultural organizations and companies. She graduated as a practitioner in the Feldenkrais Method, following the Feldenkrais International Training Programme "Greece I", under the ed.direction of Ruty Bar (2012-1015) and is certified by the Eurotab (European Accreditation Board).
She also teaches dance/movement for children and adults since 2002 and recently started running movement play programs for babies and toddlers. She teaches the Feldenkrais Method since 2014, while in 2016 together with a team of colleagues/co-graduates in the Feldenkrais method, they launched the “Feldenkrais Center” in central Athens (www.feldenkraiscenter.org), a studio centered around teaching, expanding and promoting the Method in Greece, accessing as many target groups as possible.
Education / Performance+Creative work / Teaching She studied dance at the State Dance School in Athens and at The Northern School for Contemporary Dance(Leeds, England - grad. 1997). She has been extending her investigation and experience in dance through improvisation/composition, voice work, martial arts, other movement related techniques such as the Feldenkrais method and dance forms like japanese Butoh, as well as therapy and the use of new technologies. In 2002 she has been awarded the DANCEWEBscholarship with support from the A.S.Onassis Foundation and attended Impulstanz Festival and intensive Workshops in Vienna. Since 1998 has been working as a freelance dancer for YELP dance company,ZITA dance company,Amorphy,Carol Brown, 58+3 dance company, Stephan Koplowitz(‘Babel Index’ - Dance Umbrella 98), Rebecca Skelton, Met’ Embodion dance company, amongst others.
She has been an an ongoing collaborator/dancer for YELP dance company - Chor. Mariela Nestora since 1998. Her work in the company sometimes involved the roles of an assistant choreographer and press/communication administrator. Since 2005 she has started a close collaboration with fellow dancer/choreographer Iris Karayan - ZITA dance company which has led to various projects (i.e.the solo Self Portrait). Recently the work "A time to mourn" by ZITA, was awarded the 1st choreography prize 'Jarmila Jeřábková Award'of the NEW EUROPE FESTIVAL 2010 in Prague. In 2001 she worked as an assistant choreographer to Sofia Spyratou (“Troyan Women” dir. Antonis Antypas, Ancient Theatre of Epidauros). In 2003 she has been a collaborator in the international project “Next Step-The Island Project”, organised by former dance-webbers Dusan Muric & Bojana Mladenovic, created and performed by a group of former Danceweb participants in BELEF Festival, Belgrade-Serbia.
Also in 2003 she directed and co-choreographed (with S.Strimbakou) the dance film "Talspel" screened at various video art festivals in Greece, inc. VideoDance2004 Festival and Napolidanza Video Dance Festival. She was one of the 4 choreographers in the creation of dance film "AΩ" directed by Konstantinos Xatzinikolaou-Kine Film group (1st award “Project Exchange”: co-production of VideoDance2004-Thessaloniki Film Festival).
Since 2002 she is involved in educational work, mainly by teaching creative/contemporary dance to children and adults. A teaching collaborator of many private schools, dance studios and institutions, such as the Duncan Dance Research Centre (Municipality of Vyronas), Moraitis Private School, Quasi Stellar studio, Studio Metsis and other private dance schools in Athens.
Arts Administration / Writing Marilena Petridou has been involved in the arts managment work since 2001, in a self-taught, experiental basis and has ever since worked as a freelance administrator for small or major organisations within the arts in Greece. She started mainly by assisting with press/communication work for YELP dance company, moving on to being an assistant for E-phos New Media Festival for "Transdance‟ dance and technology lab. Later she has been engadged to work for VideoDance Festival (Thessaloniki International Film Festival) during 2004-2007, as an assistant to the Curator Christiana Galanopoulou and as of 2008, under the the same direction, she has worked for the 1st MIR Festival (2008) During 2005-7 she has worked as the Press and Communication Administrator for Small Music Theatre, an alternative music and performance venue in Athens. In 2006 she collaborated with the Duncan Dance Research Centre in Athens, where she worked as an assistant administrator to the Artistic Director Pinelopi Iliaskou. The Duncan Centre has been an Associated Partner of IDEE (Initiatives in Dances through European Exchange) network for 4 years. She has worked as a press administrator and production assistant for the 7th ECOCINEMA Festival(2008) held in Athens and for the logistics and hospitality dept. of the Athens Festival (2008). In the summer of 2009 she worked as an office/hospitality manager for the 2nd Athens Biennial HEAVEN, one of the biggest fine art events in the country, held in Faliro, Athens. Since 2009 she is a founder member of independent events organiser Silence Fiction Society, who curate exceptional concerts and events around the experimental / folk / concrete musical genres. Also since 2008 she is the co-writer (under the nickname 'Nadiezda Stroutskova') of 'DecaDance' article series in the screen&stage section of Velvet magazine(free press+webzine).
Musical Involvement Since 2007 Marilena Petridou has been active in various musical projects as a drummer/percussionist, performer+vocalist : In 2008 she co-created experimental-psychedelic music trio Bruised Lee where she collaborated as a drummer-percussionist and as of 2009 she is the drummer of garage-psyche-pop band The Mongrelettes. In the past she performed with the punk-dada group Lost Bodies as a vocal performer. Since 2007 she has been active in the post-punk music/art project The Callas as a member of girl group "The Callasettes" accompanying the activity of The Callas in their musical performances. In 2013 she joined The Callas as a core musical member, their drummer/percussionist.
